#11 can’t open your attachment but if listed as NavalParty 1007 is the same. The same vessel on my app . If click on that will open with ships particulars . Is only there because a matelot years ago on site put it on for me, he had served on same vessel. JS

#13 Vernon I put a post on here sometime ago about going as the master on a Russian Survey ship which I brought down from Singapore to WA to do side scans off W.A. . In the 1990 s it was the official Australian governments stance that any foreign flagged ship was only allowed on the coast had to have an Australian crew on board. So I was duly appointed with 8 crew members to do this chore and off we went up to Singapore to bring thevessel on to the coast here. In the meantime an arrangement had been made between government officials no doubt that the Russian crew including the Russian master would be allowed to stay on the vessel due no doubt to the expenses involved in putting 37 crew members in an hotel until the vessel was handed back . Crew members on Russian ships never de manned like the UK and others , there were also about 10 surveyors on board , so that made a total Russian complement of 47 Russians , plus 8 Australians =55 bodies , nearly Happy Days Are here Again. ? Every thing ran ok and got to know the Russian master very well , the Russian wages were. Atrocious and he was always after me to see the Seamans Union in Australia for personal benefits contrary to the popular believe that they were all scoundrels . Anyhow I found in the chart room bookshelf a tome of all British and American warships with names etc. of various private information of various people manning these vessels and some of the descriptions I assumed was their sexual preferences . I came across the Seaforth Clansman in this book she was classed as a warship , she was a merchant ship so the Russians werent so clever , however before I had time to read and see if I had any sexual preferences , the Russian master appeared and took the book out of my hands saying ,you aren’t supposed to see that. Anyhow I still pursued the matter but did not get very far and the book I never saw again . Cheers JS

For any would be seaman wanting to go to sea not for money try the Russian flag, that is if they would employ a Westerner . The master was on 47 pounds a month or the equivilant in Roubles ,the radio officer on 30 pounds and the seamen on about 20 . The master who had a wife back in his homeland was a medical doctor and she was on 37 pounds a month or as near as I could work out. The cost of living in parts of the Russian Federation must have been very low. So really comparing wages means nothing . The only time it did was when they came into contact with the exorbitant west luckily they never got ashore in Australia as never went alongside otherwise would not have been able to go ashore or only for sightseeing . I have noticed today there is very little movement off the ships in Australia of crews ashore ,they probably suffer from similar penury diseases. JS.
