    Default The Princess Royal Ship/Barge?

    Hello all,
A bit of ancestry research revealed my great, great grandfather Charles Fisher was a ‘Bargee’ on the ship(?) The Princess Royal moored at Greenwich about 1890s. What is a Bargee doing on a ship or is the ancestry entry incorrect. Does anyone have a photo or general description of this vessel?
    Thanks for any assistance.
    Richard

#1, Hello Richard, can you supply Charles's date and place of birth please, have located around 15 of the same name but no way to cross reference with your 2xgt,grandfather. Also do you have the ship's number per chance as again there are quite a few Princess Royal vessels. If you post the crew list here we may be able to read the discription for you. Thank you.

More information, Charles Fisher 1874 to 1901 born Northfleet Kent (no exact date) Father also Charles Mother Harriet. He spent 20 days in the Royal Dreadnought Seaman’s hospital for heart problems dates unknown. Helpful?

Good Morning Richard, the following details from Find My Past [FMP] as I couldn't decipher Ancestry's documents either!

Charles Henry Fisher born third quarter of 1873, baptised March 1874
    Married 1903
    Died 1933
He is listed at a Waterman and Captain like his father also on various certs.
Nothing listed on FMP so far suggests why he was on the actual ship of the ''Princess Royal''! Thinking his barge was a logistics vessel for said ship? Perhaps the members here can enlighten?
Can forward these documents and more on - if you don't have them already? Will be tomorrow though when I get home.

    Household, 1891 Census:

Charles Fisher Head Married Male 45 b:1846 Captain of barge Hastings, Sussex, England

Harriett Eliza Fisher Wife Married Female 43 b:1848 - Ramsgate, Kent, England

Charles Fisher Son - Male 17 b:1874 Mate of barge Northfleet, Kent, England

Florence Fisher Daughter - Female 15 b:1876 - Northfleet, Kent, England

Arthur Fisher Son - Male 12 b:1879 - Northfleet, Kent, England

Edith Fisher Daughter - Female 10 b:1881 - Northfleet, Kent, England

By the 1911 Census he is listed as a Master mariner Northfleet Kent.

Thanks Marian, what a great piece of detective work a lot more than I found out. I will keep digging for more information. I’m from Gravesend and will be visiting soon, I’ll try the library too seri if they have anything I do know they have a large section on the Thames river.
    Thank you again,
    Richard
