Assistance Required Please
Hello All, I'm trying to find some record of my Dad's life in the Merchant Navy. Alfred Sidney Rook. He served from the 30's and through the war. Can anyone recommend an organisation that would have comprehensive records covering that period? Thank you

Re: Assistance Required Please
Hello Chris
In that case here is the Link to his Seamans Pouch , which will contain just basic details of his Service, you will also need his CRS10 which will hold more of his Service Record , so i will add that soon.
If there is anything else i can assist with please just ask
Cheers

His CRS10 Records should be help in the following Series.
If applying please state his Seamans Pouch Ref Number as well as any other info you may have on him.
Ronaldson A C to Rooney J | The National Archives

Description: |

There is also this Link that may hold his Records. as the dates vary in the Series its difficult to know exactly at times which one to search.
But the following may be a better one as it covers more Years of Documents ?
Cheers

Possibly if you know the dates that he Served that would assist in your Search at the Archives, and you will not have to Search both Series!?
Cheers
Hugh our other researcher may be able to whittle this down.
Thanks

Re: Assistance Required Please
Hello Doc, thanks again. Hard to describe the sense of discovery and time gone by seeing his name in the National Archives.
As you say it's just the basic record, no background information. I clicked on all the links but they lead nowhere - perhaps I'm missing something obvious?
Perhaps the CRS10 will lead somewhere. I'm happy to do any digging necessary so if you have any more links please let me have them.
The only things I know about his service is that the last ship he was on was the Empire Cedric, he started his career at a naval school for boys somewhere like Gravesend, and the ship he was serving on during WW2 was torpedoed.
Anyway, many thanks and I look forward to receiving the CRS10.
All the best, Chris

Re: Assistance Required Please
Hi Chris
All the Links i added laed to the various Series and Pouch, you have to actually Apply for any that you want!
If you open each Link in turn you will see down the Page it asks :Request a Copy" from there you have to follow the Prompts , but first you have to Join the Archives if applying online, its easy and free to join! There is however charges taht you will have to Pay as you go! At last check each Series costs 8 GBP to start and is Non Refundable, wether or not they find anything, if anything found they will send you an Email with Costs, so then its up to you to either reject or accept! You should see the Join Link on the page at Top Right!
Hope this helps!
Cheers
