SS Thorpebay
Hello again, Thanks to all who provided great info on the Thorpebay. I wonder if anyone can provide information or direct me to where to find the name of the captain of the SS Thorpebay During the months August and September of 1937 when the ship was evacuating refugees from Santander and Gijon. Also, would there be newspaper accounts of the incidents? Finally, my dad, Francisco Zubieta, served as a volunteer first mate for the evacuations. Are there any accounts about him?

Re: SS Thorpebay
The ship's crew agreement and log for the period you are interested in is available in the UK National Archives here: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/C6000186 This will have the master's name as well as your father's, and there is likely to be an account of what took place during the evacuations. I had a look through the British Newspaper Archive and though there is mention of the ship I could find nothing relating to any incidents.

Re: SS Thorpebay
The following link also seems to hav Crew list for the Ship, at that time so would include the Capt. name of course. By just my own experience getting info of my own Ships from this Source have found some really valuable information besides the Crew Lists, as it at times includes the Logs as well.
Cheers
