    Default ships log

    Good day everyone

Can anyone assist me please in finding a Merchant ships log or possible crew list for WW2 1942 -1945
The ship is the Merchant Atlantian SS Ships number 149686 built 1928
I have contacted national Archives for my fathers pouch and after taking a ridiculous fee they said they cannot find it as may have been destroyed
So I am reaching out to the experienced and wise to seek advice
Question is, it sailed out of Liverpool but trying to locate its voyage and crew during this period
Fathers registration for the Merchant was R310792
Any advice or assistance gratefully received

    Kind Regards

    Salty

    Good Day to you Salty.

Sorry to hear that your father's documents may have been destroyed.I had a look in the CLIP (Crew List Index Project)for the years 39-42,but it just refers me to the National Archives,Kew and the various documents in BT381-which is what you already know.

Yes,the ss ATLANTIAN (149686 of 1928)was a T .J. Harrison (Charente SS Co) ship from Liverpool. An info link HERE

I am posting for your info a Convoy Web Movement List for Atlantian in the War Years 1942-45;-

    Kind Regards
    Graham

    Hello George
As you mention no name , i presume this would be his Pouch of which you say there is no Record ?? Very strange as why woould there be an entry for him at the NA. I feel that possibly they have made an error in searching ?
As well there is his CRS10 which would be held ther as well, that would hold all his Sea Searvice Records!
So my advice is to write to them with the info again , and include as much as possible , with all their replies as well.
Also include the References for his Seamans Pouch, plus the CRS10 Reference which i will post here shortly once found!
    Cheers

NB Added This would more than likely be the Link for his CRS10

    Cheers keep us updated !

The sailing Log that graham kindly submitted is at the NA and can be downloaded for free if needed!

Crew list for the Ship mentioned in 1945 Link here , from NA. Costing??

Finally George there is the last resort of Emailing the Southampton Archives, and asking the question, and although it does say Seaman Serving after 1941 would or may have been moved to the Kew Archives, it is a possibility that some records are still in Southampton?
I have in the psat come across this with a few other people searching for records!
But hopefully the NA may still prove valuable!
    Cheers

    Hi Graham
Nothing much about this but the BT382 relates to the CRS10 and not the Seamans Pouch, so there may still be something in his CRS10. The Seamans pouch Records as you may well know are in BT372 Of course BT381 is what already is known , and thats unfortunately not much for the poster!

Such an excellent history posting by Graham Shaw. Just thought I would add a few notes about the ATLANTIAN as written in Graeme Cubbin’s magnificent book “Harrison’s of Liverpool” page 182.
Referenced as ship number 231. 1934-1951. With good photograph of vessel.
Quote:- .” 7. 2, 1942. Successfully fought a night engagement with a German submarine in the approaches to Halifax, Nova Scotia. In June , Second Officer C.A,V. Daly received the King’s Commendation for his part in the action”
The vessel was ultimately sold to Japan interests in 1951, renamed “HAKUZAN MARU” and scrapped in Japan in1964.
Didn’t a Japanese plastic ship model manufacturer is a model kit of that vessel ? Sold here in the States.

I am not sure as to what the NA Record holds for the Ship, but i had posted th Link for the Movements, have you looked at that yet! You can View the Files Free , just have to join the NA , which is also free.
Then you just follow the Prompts and Download the Files! It is 3.5 MB
