Meanwhile we just sit and wonder what the hell next is going to happen.
John, if he is allowed to keep these areas, he wont stop there, he will trump up some other excuse to continue. A big mistake of the allies was to start scaling down their troops in Germany, thereby making it vulnerable. After all, he could claim East Germany was always Russian.
Dont forget all the ex Soviet states also, the communists "seeded" Russians in all those states for many years. I recall my recent company employing a Kazak national as a representative, but she always described herself as Russian so as to differentiate herself from native Kazaks, despite the fact she was something like third or fourth generation Russian.

Re: NATO & World War 3
It was a rigged referendum and no other nation has recognised Russias right to annex parts of Ukraine. If the Ukraine application to join NATO is granted that is the start of WW3. If it is rejected that is a green light for Russia to escalate the war. On the news last night Putin was shaking hands with the new Russian appointed governors for the 5 disputed regions. The 5 of them looked rather sheepish, I suspect they know that Outin has as good as painted a target on their backs.

#120 Maybe some brilliant strategist will come up with the idea of enlarging any existing No Mans Land between borders to more extensive depths whereby both contestants will call it a day, as will both lose so much land and means of travel , will have to use telescopes and hearing machines to blow raspberries at each other. OR chuck him out of the U.N. as has gone bush.
OR disband the U,N. And reform under different ground rules.
OR put out a poster Reward dead or Alive for horrors against humanity. $10 reward , in roubles they are short of.
OR hire an assassin and just kill the SOB.

Re: NATO & World War 3
Perhaps Daniel Craig ex 007 could come out of retirement and take Putin out? Just a thought.

Or tell Putin that if he ever uses these supposedly small nukes, that we will issue same to the Ukraine, with the long range means of delivery to hit Mother Russia proper. Putin is running out of options I feel.

Re: NATO & World War 3
Never heard of a small nuke Keith. Whos kidding who. Russia is next to Russia any and all fall out will also fall on Russia as well as surrounding countries no matter small , medium or large. Russia at this present moment in time has invaded a country killed thousand of people and not even declared war. He has superceded the Infamous Pearl harbour attack many times over , and people argue about it ? All this in the open for the world to see and do really nothing. Those countries refusing to mark Putin’s moral code report should be properly observed in the future if there is one and also be censured when the time is right. Which is really 8 months ago. I doubt Putin will ever cede to those he is at odds with , he is well and truly on the path to destruction of himself and the rest of the world , it appears that the only people who can and hopefully will, will be his own people to topple him. Hi James.
The target you mention has been on their backs since 2014 since they declared independence from the Ukraine.

Re: NATO & World War 3
Ah! how our memories fail us as we grow old. There were no calls for shootings of Kissinger, no calls for the UN to throw out America, and yet America [With apologies to Rob] dropped more bombs on Cambodia a country they were not at war with, than was dropped in the whole of the second World War, that America went to the aid of the French in Vietnam, to keep France's control there over a people who didn't want them there, it seems the horror of the Napalm, and Agent Orange has been forgotten despite on going birth defects. The sanctimonious speeches by Biden don't include those times unfortunately, as it may put some things in perspective. It did occur to me that the Ukraine couldn't be manufacturing their own arms, as they have lost control of the Iron ore and steel works, so who is making all the money from the arms supplied?
