Default Looking for any information and possible photo of Charles fraser who was lost at sea in 1961

His full name is Charles George Robertson Fraser marries to a Margaret maiden name Smith. They lived at 3 Kilgour gardens which i believe is now alexander terrace in Tillydrone He was a Trawler man on the Aberdeen vessel Star of lathallen. he was 22 years old born 1/12/38 with 3 young boys Twins Charlie Ronnie and Norman and a baby on the way which was my mum. he fell over board off Buchan Ness. Alex Cameron 672 kingstreet was a deck hand and had to be restrained from jumping in after him. The skipper was James Norval, 4 byron terrace.

This is all the information i have of him from a news article in the evening express dated 24/11/61. after he died my grandmother remarried and didn't talk about him to my mum. My mum was never able to see any of that side of her family and has never even seen a picture of him, Now she has just turned 60 I thought it would be a nice surprise to see what I can uncover for her. But I don't seem to be getting anywhere if anyone can help point me in the right direction. Have any photos of the crew onboard the star of lathallen or have any information at all id be very grateful

His son Norman Fraser was also a trawler man but he died of heart attack aged 41 in 2002 would also be nice to find any photos of him.

Hi PPF,that is a sad personal story about the lives of the trawlermen in your family so thank you for sharing it.
One would like to think that there must be those who remember or have perhaps a family member connected to the incident. In historical terms 1961 is not too far out of the realms of impossibility in finding someone.Perhaps photos of crew members is more of an impossibility,as one can imagine trawlermen being too busy working to take photos, perhaps socialising ashore after voyages would be more of a likelihood....

I assume you have photos of the Star of Lathallen,as they are on the Aberdeen Archives,Gallery and Museums site HERE

I do hope you get responses from this and other sites.
    All the Best
    Graham

Hi Charlie, does your grandad happen to have a brother called murdoch by any chance? (Possibly spelt wrong) My nana recently passed away and we think she could possibly be related to charles fraser. She mentioned him when she was alive however we don’t know much apart from the fact she believes he was lost at sea when she was approximately 19 years old which works if he was lost at sea in 1961. We are just trying to figure out if this is the same person as we are trying to complete a family tree. my mam also believes he was from Aberdeen.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks x

Hello Beth, Charlie hasn't been on site since July 2022, probably best you send him either an email or private message [pm] via the site.
