Missing At Sea?

Hi All. I'm researching my family tree and have discovered a relative who was a seaman. His name is William Thomas Murray and in our family archives (mostly scribbled notes!) he is reported to have been 'lost at sea' in 1932. William, who apparently preferred to be known as Tom, married Elizabeth Byrne in 1919 and after having 2 daughters went missing at sea. I don't know anything else so I'm starting from scratch and would really appreciate your help. Many thanks

Hi Marian, I think he was born 1892/3 and not sure where he was born. He's certainly in Liverpool from an early age.

The only other hint I have is that his father's name was Jacobi Murray (I think Jacobi is the latinized James??)

Well maybe that’s him then! I mean what’s the odds of it being anyone else? Is there a way to find out the circumstances of his death? Accident or illness? Which ship was he on? Did it sink? Thanks for your help Marion!!

The Number of the Ship on his Card (last Ship 1930 ) 146294 MATIANA may well be the Ship.
But on the database on Deaths at Sea there is a Dolius 147247 (Ship) listed and is the only entry for 1932 ??

What you just did is amazing, I would still be printing out his name. My Comp had a problem that my son fixed, I didn't know there were thousands of files on here that I have no idea about, no wonder Tony is over the moon.

Marian and Team, I can't thank you enough, truly amazing what you have found in such a short time. I'll keep you posted if I discover more and I will be back to ask another favour as my own father, Joseph Patrick Byrne, was also a Merchant Seaman!

Update! I have spoken with Emily's team at Falmouth Town Council. There is no record of a William Thomas Murray being buried in Falmouth, which means it is highly likely that his body was recovered by his family and transported to Liverpool, and that is where I shall search next.

N.B. Falmouth TC's burial records are completely digitised

Thank you Marian I think between Elizabeth's and William's families they could afford to bring him home, they were an enterprising lot! Elizabeth was my Grandfathers elder sister. His name was Patrick Byrne and he was quite successful, operating several businesses, one of which, a fish and chips shop, is still in the family today, 90 years later! Unfortunately, I can't verify Elizabeth's date of death, or her daughters. Can I ask how you get your information please?
