Like you Joh been on her.
WE were told the reason for not running at full speed was that the cargo was of such value that the skipper did not want to risk loosing any in bad weather or through bad seamanship.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Like most things John was probably said by some curator who had no idea himself but was literally repeating what he had been told to say. I came across this when visited a chapel outside of Edinburgh the scene of a movie , this chapel had a lot of visitors because of this movie and many questions were answered according to its past history. After the discourse I went to see the bloke who showed us around to correct him on some of his information, I was saved the problem as already this professor also a student of certain things beat me to it. His reply was Gentlemen I am no expert I am told what to say to queries . Sounds a bit like our news media and politicians. Pity Albanese could not remember what to say and remember. Have you noticed how much weight he has lost over the past 18 months or so , he may go back off his diet after all the fireworks are over. Cheers JS.

The Leeuwin is a 3 masted barqentine but is considered a tall ship. Her permanent mannining when I was there was master, motor mechanic , and cook. The watch keepers had to be professional seamen holding the appropriate certification. The deck crew were all volunteers . I was approached when home on leave to make the numbers up which I did. Pleased I did as is an experience that most would enjoy. JS

Great information, Dave. I live in Canada, so I would have to work out how to do the in-person research. In what cities are the archives housed?
