    Default Lost discharge book

Hi, Can anyone confirm if it is possible to get a replacement discharge book for one that was lost 40-50 years ago. The book was issued to my brother in Scotland in 1967. Still have owner details and number, it's just that i saw on the "repair shop" a man had a discharge book for his granduncle who went down with the Titanic (discharge book as well). Regards (R862929)

Patrick, I doubt it but if you did all you would get is a brand new empty book and the new ones are slightly different. I have had three books over the years getting new ones when the old one filled up to me it is the entries in the books that make the memories for me not the actual book itself.

If you want to try look on the MCA (Marine and Coastguard Agency) website.

    Hello Patrick
Replacement Discharge Books are only available for Seaman who are still gainfully employed, or have a letter stating that they will be taken on a Ship.
Otherwise only Paper Copies of his CRS10 Documents are available from Kew , id still held and not been destroyed as many were for unknown reasons.

    See info here
    Application for a discharge book, British seaman's card (MSF 4509) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

    Cheers

Also depending if the person was still at Sea after 1972 as then Records ceased to be kept.

What was his Full name and DOB Please , can see if his Records are still held

    Hi Patrick
Have looked through the Archives and there seems to be no Records of his Service, as he was still in Service 1972 as stated, must have been one that unfortunately just missed out on Record Keeping!

Will look and see if i can get anything else, and will post if any other info found
    Sorry

His records if they have survived would still be in the Fifth Register at the National Archive in classification BT382, covering the years 1941 to 1972. It was 1973 when the Registrar General of Shipping & Seamen stopped keeping records.

R859477 MACLEOD W 18/04/1952 WICK. Seaman's Pouch held in BT 372/2794/13 No service records will be in this file, but may contain ID photo.

Fifth Register covering the surnames "MacKay Donald Alexander to McKay Jane Drummond" BT 382/1112. These files contain records of up to 60 individuals and would require a visit to Kew or pay for a researcher
