    Default C.R.S. 10 Dis. A number

I would be grateful if members could asssit me with the following question -

An item - Dis.A number is listed on my fathers C.R.S. form - what does the "A' stand for and when was this number used?

Thankyou in anticipation of your assistance.

    Hello Patricia
The Discharge Prefix letter A was just a Prefix that was used at the time , like the R Number later and then the the UK Prefix which is in force these days. Prior to the A there were no Prefix Letters just Numbers.
That A Prefix was used before 1940 as far as Records show!.
So just Letters really for Documentation Purposes!

Probably the R letter is best just to remember it as Registration number or Registered number , the A as the first letter in the Alphabet which also leaves plenty more if a different direction had been desired at a later date. There are plenty of abbreviations on ships , regarding descriptions of anything and everything , and over the years they are on site and would take a lot of finding , but worth it if you want to increase your knowledge of nautical knowledge. An easy one to start with would be weights and measurements and distances etc. JS
Off topic but see just come up on news that Launceston has been awarded by unesco the gastronomic capital of the world. Must be all the seafood ? JS
