#7. Ivan strange as it may seem , but believe Japan were our allies in the First World War. So maybe they were handed back well before they changed their minds for the second round. Cheers JS

I read some book on the history of the Japanese navy years ago, and believe they modelled it on the RN even with a lot of their traditions also. I was at anchor at the South Anchorage - Singapore in the 1990s with about another 80 ships or so. A Japanese training ship joined us for a couple of days , and was a pleasure to see the old time seamanship displayed every morning at 0800 and every sunset just as regards flags ,and the bells rang every half hour. Showed how sloppy the other 81 ships were ,me included. JS.

    Hello Patricia
Think may have cracked this ??

Possibly the V indicates as shown on Other Qualifications that he was first a Second Engineer , also then shows as First Class as well, also shows that he served in the National Service , then shown as First class Motorman. This apparently with the Shipping Company Runcimans of North Shields.
So that would indicate the V stands for Verified by the MMB at that time .
This is the only explanation that fits !

Just a quickie re Runcmans ...were a Newcastle company , maybe his dis, book was issued in North Shields only , mine was , but after 1953 it was closed down. Runcimans managed in addition 6 empire vessels for the MOWT , I have their names if required ., JS
