    Default Can You Help

    Posting on behalf of Melanie

Hello, I am trying to find out about my father's time in the Merchant Navy. His name is John Christopher Head, born 11/12/46, he joined at 16 (1963). He lived in Surrey. I don't know what ship he was on or his reg number. I know he trained to navigate.

I have tried to find him in the Central Archives of Registeted Seamen but haven't found him. Although he is English, he was born in Iran as, his father was an engineer for BP over there. He moved back to the UK at 5yrs old. I'm not sure how long he served

He unfortunately suffered terrible sea sickness, so I think his service will have been relatively short.

If anyone sailed with him or knows someone who may have, or can guide me in the right direction to find any info about him; I would be very grateful. Many thanks, Melanie.

    Hi Marian
Although you are correct in the Free Digital Downloads, they do not include the Records of Merchant Seaman , mainly the Medal Listings are free. There are other Record that may be free but very few and far between, those that are would only be the very old ones covering WW1 and possibly some older ones of ww2 . One has to be a Registered User of the National Archives as well to get those free Downloads.
Thanks for assisting though always appreciated
    Cheers
