Smile ITMA!!! Dominic Michael Stringer a.k.a.Dominic Cunningham Casey

    Hi folks,

Massive breakthroughs recently havfe posed all sorts of new questions!

Having proved Dad was born Dominic Cunningham Casey via several DNA matches, it transires that he was a Gunner RA with 3 Bty 6HAA. This is how he got to Singapore.

Apparently, 6HAA left Liverpool November 41 on Monarch of Bermuda. The ship joined WS12 at the Clyde bound for the Middle East. Courtesy of the Japanese the convoy was diverted to Durban and there split. I have the voyage record card for the Monarch of Bermuda, but should like to find out more about how the convoy fared on its journey.

At Durban 6HAA moved onboard Aorangi which left Durban circa Christmas 1931 and arrived Singapore 13 January - without much if its equipment which had been left on the other part of the convoy! Again, I have the voyage record card for the Aorangi, but should like to know more about her voyage to Singapore.

Finally, I cannot get the original of Dad's CRS 10 to upload. there is loads of information on it that I just do not understand. Dad joined the British Merchant Navy in Canada in 1944. Perhaps some kind could could pm me with their email so I can send it for interpretation?

    Thanks folks

This may be of use to you, which I collated from the convoyweb site There appear to have been no casualties in these obviously very closely -guarded troop movement convoys.

Re Convoy DM1;- Addu Atoll ,part of the Maldives,in the Indian Ocean:-
During the Second World War Addu atoll was the site of a secret Royal Navy base called HMS Haitan, to take advantage of the deep anchorage and sheltered natural harbour there. Oil tanks and storage facilities were built on Gan island, together with an airstrip and a flying boat base.

    Hi Graham,

That is useful. Thank you very much. I am aware of Convoyweb, but the Arnold Hague database has been withdrawn. It is interesting that Abbekerk and Narkunda are part of that same convoy. i have come across both ships in previous research on a peripheral level. I shall have to return to my notes and files to see if there is more information for me.

    Hello Hazel
Regarding what you sent me , i think that most of it we have already gone through between many of us here?? Is there something in particular that you still are missing? I am so confused!
    Thank You

See following and go through them all again, it may clear things a bit.

    Hi Doc,

Just emailed you. Yes we have been through the Naval Courts etc before but it is more the "nitty gritty" that I am interested in now. Things like the fractions, Bay K and initials like OGUJ. I would just like to understand more of the heiroglyphics!

As to being able to send it to you, I can attach a file to an email, but I have NEVER managed to upload any file to this website! I just do not seem to be that computer savvy!

    Hazel
