    Default MN Song

I have been asked to lay an MN wreath on November 11.
The service will be held indoors.
The Legion ask if the MN have an official song.?
I knw quite a few, but none suitable for the occasion.
    Any ideas?

    As I was a'walking down by K.G.5.
I saw an old trampship tied up along side
The M.V. hardship that were her name
She were bound out to Kiwi and back home again.
    CHORUS
Pound away, pound away, from London to Kiwi is a hell of a way.

Saild down the channel on a cold frosty day
Then rounded Ushant & it's South cross the Bay.
The 2nd stewards 'fruit' and the cook he is too
The bugger each other and the rest of the crew.

There's nothing for dinner, there's nothing for tea
But that fat cook he keeps winking at me
Him and that steward are a bloody disgrace
Just see the look on the galley boys face!

The Mate is a bastard the Seconds the same
The Bosun has Work as his middle name
As for the Old Man well no one can say
'Cause no bugger's seen him since sailing day.

When we got to Kiwi we all went ashore
Of to Ma Gleeson's to get us a whore
But when we got there the pickings were poor
'cause the P.S.N.C. lads had been there before.

Now the voyage has ended in West India Dock
To Charlie Brown's with our pay-off we'll flock
Soon we may sign with Ropner's or Glen
But the M.V. hardship we won't see again.

Reminds me of a Runcimans company song , tried putting it up once before and failed so will probably be the same again.
We were leaving Rangoon by the light of the moon,
    Sailingby night and by day.
And while we”re in motion ,
We”re the pride of the ocean,
You can” see our ass**** for spray .
So sail on the Avon, the Kirrie , the Link .
This 4 legged Doxford’s beginning to stink .
There are verse after verse to this saga of the seas but can only remember remote parts in different order.
    One verse is...
Captain Roberts would look on her with pride.
He would have a blue fit.
    If he saw someone Tish
On the side of the Glenmoors Port side.
And after about 30 verses ..
This is my story this is my song ,
We’ve been on this ship too bloody long,
    And finally ..
Down the gangway we will go Engineers in a row.
    Bye Bye Hazelmoor
All sang to pack up your troubles or something similar , if someone had kept copies of all the ditty’s and robust sea shanty’s , Bobbie Shaftoe need never had gone to sea.
    Cheers JS

Hi again ! PSNC did have song but all i remember is the very beginning —. “There’s a four masted bastard just leaving Callao, bound for old Blighty shore”. It was quite good and rhymed well, notes easy to sing even if of poor voice. Be great if anyone can recall it. Another item present in just about every major merchant fleet was The Company’s “IF” — a take off from Rudyard Kipling’s master poem. Be good to see that PSNC one again. Keith A.

The only song I recall on UCL was
Sing, sing or show your ring.

AS to laying a wreath, with the lock down here ending this Friday we are yet to be informed of what will be on this year.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.

remember singing this one often in the early stage of a p*** up, while we were at the stage of still being nice young men, the more ale consumed, turned us into singing more expletive bound songs, lol

At HTHNS Sunday Church Parade at the conclusion we always sang 'Eternal Father Strong to Save' the words say all that is necessary and would be in keeping with the occasion. Flippancy and derogatory Company related songs/ditties would not be the order of the day

I think Doc suggested that in the first reply Ivan, plus others that would be appropriate , and as usual the talk switched somewhat, and was not meant to disrespect, kt
