# 19. Doc I totally agree with you, I sailed on the Union Castle line, as a Tourist Class winger, A Tourist Class bedroom steward, and a First Class Pantry man, and have nothing to say but I had a great few years on the Windsor Castle, my final ship, I came ashore in May 1963, as my wife was going to have a baby, I wish I could have stayed longer.

I was First Class Asst Stwd, Tourist Class Galloper (Stwd) and did Bar Work on two of my Ships as well.
Never a dull moment, hard Work at times (Well most times actually) but at least can say at the end of each trip, both Mail Run and Round Africa Runs , got quite a good Payoff, plus Tips which i always found were way above what i actually earned in Salary.
Some great Ports visited along the ways too, and met plenty of nice Folk!
Nothing like it in them days, what a great experience we all had!

Yes nothing wrong with UCL, I did well out of them and met some great people, one met in 1961 and we still keep in contact, he is in UK.
Yes Bill you had the second pursers table table on the Windsor with the mad Dutchman as head waiter and Tony Talavera his assistant.
Would do it all again, and again if we could.
The control of discharge of any waste from a ship falls under the IMO MARPOL convention. In 1988 annex V covering the discharge of plastic, food waste, sewage etc was introduced along with regulations covering port waste reception facilities. This annex has been further strengthened covering such items dunnage and bulk cargo sweepings.
