Judging by the uniforms of the 'crew' it would be almost certain that she was a custom & excise boat.
I remember another one, possibly her replacement and will try to see if I can find any more info on her.
Regards Jim
Thanks to both Krisines and Doc Vernon for the photos, No doubt, that is just how I remember her, I wonder where she is pictured in your photo Doc? Doesn't look like one of the North docks,, more likely a little used south end dock.
Nice to think it has connections for you Krisines. Thanks again lads.

I know very well the grandson of the John moyles ...who was the port medical officer and who the boat was named after ...I have shown him these photos and he is delighted
My grandfather was one of the Moyles crew in the 1940s, and may even have ran it at points. The purpose of the vessel was to ferry doctors about to check the paperwork and general medical inspections of incoming crew and passengers on ships throughout the port of Liverpool as deemed necessary, by port authorities. It was known as the doctors' boat. As stated it was moored at the Liverpool landing stage southend. Your dad will have been on it because he been asked by Liverpool port authorities to administer some sort of check no doubt.
Just an update on this.
The Moyles boat featured in the Beatles documentary on BBC 4 last Friday and can be seen here at 02.38...

More importantly the fella in the photo on board the Moyles in the long dark coat, light buttons, is indeed my grandfather.
My dad moved into a residential home in Crosby this time last year.
He asked me to research the Moyles and I found Krisines photo on this forum.
In May I uploaded it onto a Moonpig 88th birthday card for him.
Due to lockdown he hadn't seen anyone for 2 months and for medical reasons I still haven't been able to go and see him in person.
Anyway suffice to say when the card arrived, he was very surprised but delighted and was very excited to tell me that the fella in the photo was his dad - my grandad.
So, the real story that some readers may be interested in, is that this forum made an old man's year and has kept him going right through lockdown. Good work all round.
This should be the photo again.

I have a close friend who is the grandson of dr Moyles who the boat was named after ...he would love any pictures of information regarding the boats.
Thanks
