Discharge Book and Voyage details

How would I go about finding my discharge book number, and details on the voyages I made on various ships I have the names of the ships and approximate dates.
I was R/O from 1971 through to 1978

Hi,
The Guildhall in London and the National Library of Scotland have paper copies of Lloyd's lists which would give details of the ports of call. I have contacted the Guildhall at this email address and they were very helpful. After covid it may be worth a visit. You have to contact them before visiting. Sorry no idea how you could find you Discharge book number.

Hello Michael
As you were still at Sea after 1972 there were n official records kept for those that were still employed. Therefore the National Archives will not have any copies. They stopped keeping records after 1972.

As said above though the Guildhall Library will have records of Voyage Record Cards which will at least give you the Ports of call.

Just as a feint possibility where were you Born and what is your DOB.
There may be some Records but i need that info to start a search!

Were you contracted to a Radio Officer supply company (e,g, Marconi etc) if affirmative then they will have a record of your service and hence your Dis A number. try same if you belonged to a Union

#3 Anyone know why records were no longer kept after 1972. As we all know Asbestosis can take years to evolve(is that the right word) If one has lost discharge books or records of sea service. The National Archives office could have been a useful place to get all your seagoing details in the event of trying to get a claim or extra pension for an industrial injuries awards.

The same if you were contributing to any pension fund. Your book number was and is a means of identifying you. JS

Well i have looked and there seems to be Records of Seaman after 1972 at the Site i list in my Email to the People Concerned, dont know if i will get any reply, but hoping that they will inform me of the procedure ??
Will keep posted if and when i do hear back.
