Same rule here, although I must admit not always adhered to by me. I was taught if overtaking, do it quickly and get back into your own side of the road as quickly as possible. I do not understand people in cars who overtake at a speed 5mph faster than the vehicle they are overtaking, I can understand commercial vehicles doing this, as neither wants to lose momentum, as it takes a lot of building up.

Re: Just spotted this
Oh so true Ivan, my attitude is if you are going to overtake get it done as safely and as quickly as possible. Another thing that does my head in is the middle lane motorway driver. I have to say it we in the UK are really bad for doing this. Having driven many miles on the Continent motorways or Auto routes the rule is pass and as soon as possible get back into the inside lane. Another one though over there is Herman takes no prisoners he wants to pass and he is trying to make love to your rear bumper, also the French are real tailgaters not so much on a motorway but any other road. They are great though if you ride a motor bike, they do give you a wide berth.

Re: Just spotted this
The Dutch are just as bad as Heinrich for tail gating and steering with their knees, probably quite easy with their long legs. Middle lane drivers now get three points on their licence for middle lane hogging if the road ahead is clear, camera evidence is enough to prosecute and about time too. Haven't had many tailgaters since fitting Dashcam cameras for'd and aft, anyone who tailgates me, must wanna go fast, as I'm still a rapid progress motorist, you don't have to speed to be a rapid progress motorist, just traffic aware. But it is surprising how many drivers don't understand what the word 'average' means when in an 'Average speed area'

Re: Just spotted this
Lewis I know what you mean, yes only a very small population.
But could it be that there is some other reason which as only voters we may never be told?
Any proposal by any gov has another hidden agenda, very often waiting for public comment on the subject.
As to freeways, most of ours are only two lanes many with signs saying keep left unless overtaking.
But with some of the trucks we have you have to be well aware of what is going on, they are big and brutal.
Northern Territory is the worst with the road Trains.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Boris and talks of tunnels & bridges to N Ireland is just a way to keep the DUP & UDA/UVF
thinking that Westminster actually give a toss about N Ireland remaining British.

Re: Just spotted this
Well probably very true lewis most others i believe in the union couldnt give a toss about northern ireland ....and before you blow a tube .....NI is in tumult ...and always has been ...but when the parliament all go home.. but still all factions draw a wage more or less throughout.....i can only equate there is a bigger prob there than worrying about boris and his tunnels .....the real prob is religion and no one would know better than them that lives amongst it......so your country must live with that ....and just let boris build his tunnels ....a much smaller problem.......for all concerned ....as for religion i am a converted bohemian bush baptist ....but always say CHURCH OF ENGLAND........CAPPY

Re: Just spotted this
Cappy, GOD left Ireland years ago, just the the minority that still go to church getting fleeced by silver tongued Pastors who went to America and bought a divinity degree. Have a read about the Wrightbus Company & Greenfield Tabernacle Church , that plonker of a Pastor put 1200 jobs at risk just to fund his church. The divide here is Tribal not religious and has always been that way Priests & Vicars exploited that Tribalism.

#57 Too true Lewis when I lived
in England most law abiding citizens couldn’t care less about a Northern Ireland and most would have wished they kept their problems and sorted out themselves., which would mean them voting for it themselves , but they never did. JS
