    Default Ship Survivors

morning brian .....i sailed with a chief officer in 1960 he was sunk on a vessel by the french navy ...i believe she was the wray castle .....hands were given brutal tretment and marched across deserts etc to timbuctoo ....there are still graves looked after there by the CWGC.....deep sea may have info.....he was master of the vessel when fired upon by french naval forces andinjured entering the life boat .....sadly on the vessel i was in at the time was filled with people suffering from drink problems he was put ashore in osaka after leaving the bridge on his watch with no.one at the wheel and only a few miles at full speed heading into a horseshoe atoll...and under the influence ....the vessel had massive alcohol problems in all sections....we had an AB just from prison stabbing a man after coming home from sea and finding his wife adrift .....all hands felt sorry and oneway and another he never turned to till we reached curacao for bunkers ...he turned to up forrard to stand by when the mate asked who the fxxx are you ...we had a company rum for all hands to last 6 months it was broached and gone by we reached curacao ,,,,,even ist trippers drinking rum every night .....no one missed there watch the second engineer coming down our end on xmas eve at sea....we said to him you just do what your told like us .....he said no i dont he was asked well prove it go and turn her up a couple of notches ...off he went half cut ....up she jumped rattling like a marble in a tin can...the others had other problems ....the wheel man said all hell broke out onthe bridge...the mate the second engineer the chief engineer the old man and the old mans wife.....all shouting at once .....the mate had suffered terrible abuse and looking back i think that was his prob even after been relieved at sea he was in our quarters looking for drink a sad sad sight .....people ashore would never understand these things but that is all fact ....and that is only part of the trip ......the mate was a proper old time seaman and much liked really......cappy

That Link you give Capt , there is a listing of all the POW Camps as you apparently would know.
The PG ones are the ones to look at as they are the ones in Tunisia ( Italy)

    I cannot find the DORSET
If you are referring to the Merchant ship Dorset from Operation Pedestal. All her crew were picked up by the British Destroyer HMS Bramham.
