At one time when we had a landline, used to get regular calls about 1930. One evening instead of just putting phone down, I asked the caller what the weather was like in Kiddepore dock. He just saais sorry, and I got no more calls.
On;y have a mobile now, so can see who is calling and can ignore calls, especially if it says no number and is out of office hours.

We get the occasional call with no one at the end, check the number on the net and yes it is a scam one, so just put a block on it.
Some e-mails that are so obvious you know they area scam.
Get a few from the bank. I forward them to the bank who then chase them up and hopefully put a block on them.

But the best I ever heard of was some years ago in Kent.
Guy not far from us also with a pub that had a gaming machine.
Saturday night and the place was busy, in walk two men in white coats saying they were they to change the machine over.
    Landlord very busy says OK.
Out goes the old one, but yes you guessed in no new one in.

Sometimes cheek is the way to go.

Then at the Uni was employed at.
New building being built and about 80% done.
Open day the building was open to the public even though not finished, but safe to walk through.
The computer lab had been fitted out with 20 new computers.

That was Thursday, by Monday morning not one in sight.
Over the weekend a few guys had entered the place and helped then selves.

A few years ago a year before Mother died in her 90s, , , I called at her home to see if she wanted to go to the Supermarket as e always did on a Friday.
    .
She didnt want to go but gave me a shopping list.
I returned 90 minutes later and walked in. It was an empty house, she was sat on a wooden stool in an empty ;lounge, weeping and a £10 noye on the floor.

She said a gang of men arrived and emptied the house and gave her a £10 note and disapeared in a van
I got the Police, They said they could not do anything as the £10 note proved that they bought all the contents and not stolen them.

I drove round to every second hand shop in town trying to find and kill the bastards but to no avaial.

We have answer machine on the unlisted landline so don't get many calls. They quickly hang up. Occasionally I might answer, say nothing and do "heavy " breathing down the phone they go pretty quick then. A friends asks for the callers name and number saying she will call them back, they hang up. Like has been said if they are genuine they will leave a message.

Victoria, I have not had heavy breathing down the phone line for a ling time.
Got time to give me a call? LOL

Bit in the news today regarding the Postal service.
Nothing new as it has been around for a long time with the Post Office putting notices in all the stores.
A scam where an e-mail tells you there is a parcel for you at the post office but you must pay an overdue fee first.
Only a small fee, maybe a couple of dollars, but must be paid on line.
If you go to that site you are cactus as it takes all your details.

    Hi Dennis.
I'm glad they are ringing Britain, might give Aus a break. My wife had a conversation with an Indian lady who was on about someone stealing money from our none existent bank card, she gave my wife our address, who said no we don't live there, but we know who you are, the phone went down smartly.
