Default Your views Nurses to pay for parking

Well without getting to political and naming no names, Nurses free parking has been detracted, And they know have to pay to park there car on hospital car parks. I think the whole forum would agree this decision goes against the grain it wasn't that long ago we where all standing on our step giving them a round of .This is an absolute disgrace, Lets not forget they also pay for there own bursary, And there own uniforms, If this decision is not reversed after the chancellor offering half price meals when dinning out, V.A.T. Down to 5%, And lots of £500 Vouchers to be handed out to bring people back onto the high St,
Community nurse Gemma Hayes* was on call and on a tight schedule. She left her car in the residents’ car park of a block where her last patient of the day lived and displayed her professional carer’s badge on the dashboard. When she returned she’d been charged £60.
I was allocated 30 minutes for the call but spent an extra 45 minutes unpaid overtime as the elderly, housebound patient had additional needs,” says Hayes, who earns £24,200 and regularly works an extra unpaid hour on top of her eight-hour shifts. “I appealed, offering confirmation that I was carrying out a patient visit. It was rejected.
A colleague told the patient of the charge and I’ve had to request not to visit again because she’s so upset she wants to repay me. Where would we have been without these people lots of them slept on the job and never saw there family for weeks, Lots of them lost there lives nursing the infected. What a kick in the face this is. Don't try and sugar coat this decision you cant defend the un defendable. Terry

It is not just Nurses, it is all the Staff have to pay car parking at the hospital.
MY son, a consultant Doctor at Portsmouth has to pay for his car parking.
    and many other things.
Many Hospital car parks are owned by private companies.
shops and cafes in hospitals are also privately owned.

At our local hospital the nurses have to pay for a parking permit for the staff car parking area, the nurse told me this area was frequently full, and if she had to park in a patient parking area, she had to pay again, or face a fine, bloody disgusting, kt

Terry, not wishing to split hairs, looks like the nurse was parking on private property and as such she can complain within 14 days to the parking commissioners and raise an objection as to why she was surcharged.
Hospital parking charges are wrong, and should be abandoned especially for staff, but the council here in Notts is the biggest offender.
In Notts any employer with more than six carparking spaces is charge a certain amount per parking space in order t fund their tram.
This charge is levied on Courts, Hospitals, Police Stations etc.
So in effect if the hospital pays the parking fee, ten the amount to spend on patients is decreased.
I am not saying its right but there are many complex reasons for charging in hospital carparks, and sorry I don't know te answer.

Vic, I saw that about Notts in papers when they introduced it and I wondered what legal authority they had to levy fees on private property; would they start charging you for parking on your own property?

Tony, only for businesses with parking for six or more employees.
Businesses are charged and its up them if they pass the charges onto the employees.
As an aside the tram is losing over £30M a year, but hey its green.

For a number of years I was a medical driver for the local community health center.
Taking clients to hospitals and other places for their appointments.
I wore a volunteers badge and at all the hospitals by showing this there was no parking fee for the client.
Even when the car park was full they would find a spot as long as I left the key with them.

Then all the hospitals leased their care parking out to a company who specialise in this.
No more free parking and suddenly all hospital employees, nurses, doctors, cleaners, support staff had to pay, no special rate.

In today society with an aging population, the Virus and all the other medical issues we need all hospital staff to be cared for.
Free parking should be made compulsory for all hospital workers.

Politicians get free parking but they expect others to pay.

Medical staff of all sections are amongst the most important of any country, they should be treated as such, not as second class.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
