Andrew, I think it should be Ardrossan

Aberdeen built ships on the internet. Type Ardrossan in the dialog box. Short history & diagrams.

After leaving MN (temp) I was employed by English Electric (Clayton Steam Generator Division) as Scottish area Engineer and @ 1973/74 was required to get to Grangemouth and board MV Ardrossan, where they were having an apparent problem with their Clayton Steam Generator (Earth Fault showing at Main Switch Board) It turned out to somewhat difficult to trace, and I had to sail with vessel up to Aberdeen and eventually back to Grangemouth (where my Vehicle was left) a three days round trip. During the voyage I eventually found the location of Earth Fault but it was not from the Steam Generator but a fuel system supplying the generator with gas oil. All in it was a nice break to be back at sea staying in the owners cabin, with no Watch keeping responsibilities. Shell Tankers would have faced a hefty bill for my time on board.

Further to previous response, I forgot to mention that MV Ardrossan was one of three (3)MV Grangemouth and MV Inverness all built for Shell by Hall Russel (Aberdeen) all had excellent laid out engine rooms and main propulsion, if I remember correctly was 8 cylinder British Polar engines. I commissioned the Clayton Steam generators on Two of the named vessels.
