Many Insurance companies will not insure anyone over the age of 69.

I am 84,Superfit, lift weights and cycle machine in my home Gym everyday. I cannot get travel Insurance anywhere except from my bank, RBS.
This year the travel Insurance for two of us, World Wide Travel for 12 months was only £750 .
In 2013 when I had two life saving operations in Hawaii and flown home in 1st Class, three weeks in a hotel for Anne, all costing the Insurance $85,000, the premiums never went up.
most banks do it , for their customers.

I am also in that approximate age group. Faced plenty of problems getting cover in past years but now I have travel insurance for my wife and myself. Worldwide annual multi trip, no health questions, no time limitations and the only exemptions are skiing, diving and any form of being airborne hanging on a chute. Premium £250.00/annum. No age cut off as long as I don't let it lapse. Happy bunny.

    Trevor
Found this which may be of interest to you. Seems to take a long time to reach OZ though but as it is a French outfit to food on board should be good.

Trevor, sailing there and back again is very very expensive,

I suggest a few whiskeys, close your eyes for a few hours and you will be there. much easier and cheaper and quicker. Have a couple of stop overs such as Singapore, for a few days . a beautiful place for a stop over.
Nothing to it, I do it every year.

At an age now where Money is not everything,i feel that i would like to Travel like that on a Freighter ,with the relaxing atmosphere,no worries and being pampered with good Food Ah yes that would be so grand!
I feel that Irene is getting closer to her full retirement (She is of course well over retirement age now already but still wants to work) so hopefully in the near future now that will happen
And as i have said in the past that will be the time we will be able to sort out some well earned time off!
As we still prefer to Travel Singly ,gives one more time to do what each wants without the hassle, that is the way we will go, don't know yet who will go first though LOL
    Roll on !!

After John's post about an age limit on freighter travel it has dashed my hopes, I might have given it a thought on my 90th ha ha.
We traveled by air many times but never ever had insurance, don't even have life insurance. I suppose we were lucky, but hey if the plane went down no sweat, one travel agent tried to hold our ticket until we bought insurance from them until I threatened to do him some harm, I suppose now it is compulsory .
    Cheers Des

The important fundamental issue is that your spouse must be a member of the Women's Institute. Then the door will open and you will be included. The company involved in this is "Open Travel". Without W.I. membership you will be back to square one.

You do need Insurance when travelling. for the Unexpected.

I was superfit when I flew to San Diego to join a cruise ship for the South Pacific.
BUT, three days out on our way to Honolulu severe pain started and by the time I got to Honolul I was on my knees with pain,. got a taxi to the Queens Medical Centre and was given four days to live without treatment, I had Two life saving operations, removing a gangrene gall bladder and a big operation on the Pancreas that was being destroyed. They saved my life.
I have even got DVDs of the operations.
    COST?
$85,000 US Dollars. around £65,000 pounds.
well worth it, even if I had to pay, but RSB insurance paid up and never increased my later insurances.
    Expect the Unexpected
    Brian
