Actually its a scam, I would steer clear of it the tartan comes out as the Campbell Clan not the Royal Stewart

Many apprentices in the shipyards were sent to the stores to collect a tin of Tartan Paint along with a long stand.

    Not just the shipyards,
I have personally assisted in the following -
Bucket of steam requested by deck apprentice for 2nd mate.
Put carton of milk thro condenser requested by galley boy for chief cook (he was amazed by the fact it came in a can and was so fresh it was still warm).

Saw one apprentice cook made to chop a pound of flour as the sous chef told him he wanted very fine flour.
After some 20 minutes of chopping he was told it is now too fine, chuck it a way.

Surely every apprentice who ever went to sea has been sent down into the bilges to look for the golden rivet?

First trip Deck apprentices always got sent to the Bo'sun for a long weight. They always got one!

Moral of the story: if you don't have a sense of humour, don't go to sea

I think that quite a number of young seaman fell for ' Get the Captain's fish off of the line' , the line being the log line which was not appreciated.
