Re: H.M. Trawler Tartan
The Royal Naval Patrol Service Museum in Lowestoft may be able to help with your research into HMT Tartan. Gerald Toghill's book Royal Naval Trawlers, Part Two, Requisitioned Trawlers lists Tartan as requisitioned in November 1939 and converted to an APV. Then in March 1942 converted to a mine sweeper and returned to owners in March 1946. Hope you find some answers from the museum and their records. Charles.

Little known are the ‘Dan-Layer’ trawlers which working with mine-sweeper flotillas placed ‘Dans’ or buoys in areas which had been mine-swept.
Many were used as
Danlayers-the Dan being an anchored pole with a flag on top- marking areas which had been swept.HM Trawler Classes were many and were built by many ship-builders: Ardrossan Dockyard Company, Cochrane and Sons, Selby, Cook Welton & Gemmell, Beverley, Ferguson Bros Ltd, Port Glasgow, Goole Shipbuilding & Repair Co., Hall Russell & Co Aberdeen, A/J Inglis Ltd, Glasgow, Henry Robb Ltd, Leith and Smith & Co of South Bank on Tees.

Re: H.M. Trawler Tartan
Hi Chris. I have searched further re the Trawler Tartan and have found that she was in Naval Service from Nov 1939. I will see if I can add the text from an email into this post?
This is an email reply to my query about Matthew Douglas Smith on board the Tartan from the RNPSA.
Hello Jeff
HMT Tartan was an auxiliary patrol trawler from Nov 1939 and then as a minesweeper from Mar 1942 to July 1945 so was in Naval service at the time if his death.

Re: H.M. Trawler Tartan
Hi Doc. Thanks for the pic and info. Shame the identification on the bow of the vessel has been blocked out, but a nice pic nonetheless. Will have to research the Dan-Layers now. Thanks for the lead.

Re: H.M. Trawler Tartan
Usually, it is just the time factor, few that try to assist are concerned at any costs,
generally, if careful, monetary wise, little more than the cost of a hobby is involved
and few would ask for payments.
Personally, slowed but coping, awaiting an eye op.
No doubt, all may be solved before I discover more and wish you well.
Regards,
Keith.
