Somewhat good news fellow shipmates. Having dashed off an inquiry to the Ministry of Defence and surprisingly receiving a reply, the following information is given. Twice a year, the Admiralty published " Particulars of War Vessels and Naval Aircraft ( British Commonwealth of Nations ). These records are now held at the National Archives ( KEW ) in the ADM 239 series. This series is massive in scope and content. Since MY website ( Mercantile Convoy CU 49 of 1944 by Mark C. Keever ) already contains a PINK LIST and pending RED LIST, another sample page search for 8.40 Sterling monies is warranted ( and pending )...

DURING WWll I had a Janes fighting planes and used it to identify friend foe and yank aircraft. It got lost during moves my parents made after I went to sea.

Just discovered " Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships " series. On line reviews indicate a positive & comprehensive book. Ordered in a used copy for $ 36.88 U.S.D. New in January of 1980 @ $ 79.95 U.S.D. ? Like all investments, buy low - sell high. Won't sell however, as, my collections will be donated to a small town library after I pass on...

I am now in possession of the RED LIST dated December 10, 1944. It is a listing of minor war vessels in home waters. It's a big file and will take me a while to convert to PDF. I will post to my website when completed. Will advise...

The page check for ADM 239 ( Particulars... ) has come back. I requested October of 1945. 487 pages for 584.40 Sterling monies. I now only have a slightly better idea of its organization. That being said, another investment of 8.40 Pounds is needed to request sample copies. I creep forward...

I am now in possession of Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships 1922-1946. It was published in 1980 under ISBN 0-8317-0303-2. It opens " vertically ", while the more familiar, older JANE'S opens in a " horizontal " position. Both appear comparable. I guess it comes down now to availability and personal choice. Both are presented for your viewing with H.M.S. Celandine used an example...CONWAY'S ALL THE WORLD'S FIGHTING SHIPS 1922-1946 ( 1980 ISBN 0-8317-0303-2 ).jpgJANE'S FIGHTING SHIPS 1944-5 .jpg

RED LIST now 85.42 % converted. Keep in mind this is for minor war vessels in HOME WATERS dated December 10, 1944. This list is for the smaller craft such as trawlers, barges, launches & etc. Will tally out at over 5,000 craft with names, locations & type of service. Now, I discovered a part two exists. This will be dated December 13, 1944 for " ABROAD " ( worldwide ) service. Fifty-two more pages @ 62.40 Sterling Pound monies ordered in. One way or another, all the " little giants " will be recognized...
