The Captain Of a Ferry from Preston to Belfast, of Atlantic Steamship Co, . , Captain Curry, of Preston, on May 31, 1973, he went ashore and into Muldoon's Bar outside the dock gate.
He was shot in the head and killed then someone threw a bomb in there and blew it up.
His body was placed aboard his ship and taken home to Preston.
Not a nice place to go to.
Muldoon's Bar, It was Brian, Thanks for that I also remember the place being blown up in 73 p.s. just remembered the pub had 2 big blue posts that supported a canopy as you entered the place :thumbsup:
That call I did to Londonderry, apart from the army presence on the streets, I cannot recall any violence or animosity towards us, though one night at midnight, writing up the log book on the bridge, going outside to get the air temperature, I heard a crack and then the sound of something striking metal. Thought nothing of it till next day found a large gash in the Sampson post just in front of the bridge, obviously caused by a bullet but whether or not whoever fired the shot was aiming at us or had poor aim and was actually firing at a milatory base opposite us on the other side of the river, I don't know.

The 'troubles' may be over in Ireland but to the customs and security people do not appear to be aware of that.
Have made three flights from Heathrow to Cork over the past five years.
Getting into Cork from UK is not too bad, but getting out!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have not seen any airport anywhere conduct security as they do.
Have even seen them demand a passenger open up his handkerchief, not the sort of thing many would want to see.
One has to allow twice the normal time when arriving as it takes so long to get through their system.
