Malcolm Macleod
He was born on the Isle Of Lewis, and was born 10-09-11, died 04-06-1973. He survived the sinking of 3 ships during the war, Wondering how I can find the ships he was on. He was listed as Able Seaman . He had two brothers they were in the Royal Navy during the war. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Re: Malcolm Macleod
I knew personally or knew of at least 5 Macleod’s during my time at sea , 3 I never met but knew of were related to each other as were siblings and all called Murdo. Another 3 I sailed with and as far as I knew were not related and all called Murdo also. One was mate with me on offshore supply boats and was drowned in Dundee harbour when returning to a ship which was laid up. another was master on the Finnish Wasa when I was mate there, another joined a ship as master in Japan after the other one had skinned out in South Korea. Those are the ones I remember. They all had one thing in common , they all came from Stornaway. Whether any of them or maybe all of them were related to who you are trying to trace, only him up above knows. I thought at onetime everyone who came from Stornaway was called Murdo Macleod. Cheers JWS.

Re: Malcolm Macleod
It's possible he's among this group:
Search results: (malcolm AND macleod) AND "1911" | The National Archives
Dates of birth aren't quite right but as there was nothing listed under Admiralty records in the National Archives he might have been merchant navy.

Re: Malcolm Macleod
Indeed it is very confusing half the people on the Island it seems was called Murdo, so hard to trace anyone because of the similar names. Macleod is a common name on the Island.

Re: Malcolm Macleod
The Macleod who joined in japan about 1968/69 would have been in his very late 60s which wpuld fit in with him being born in the early part of the 20 th. Century. His first name may not have been Murdo. I remember he used to complain to me about his wife giving a lot of his money away to the local padre in Stornoway. I left the ship about 2 months later in Durban, after being there 13 months. If I had taken over from the master who skinned out I would of had to start over from scratch to do another year, so I insisted I didn’t want the job. I did have a home to go home to. Cheers JWS

Re: Malcolm Macleod
Malcolm retired from the Merchant Navy, not sure when but he died in 1973. Not even sure if he was married, finding it hard to get info on him, just know he had been sunk three times in different ships and lived to survive the tale. The three ships is what I would love to find out more about as well.
