    Question Question about salary

I was wondering if anybody knew about the salary offered to a Chief Engineer of a LPG carrier on Qship (Qatar Shipping company)?

I'm not looking for general salary structures but specifically about Qship.

#2.. one way of trying. To equate that with a shore wage is to say that 60,388 per annum equals 160. 50 per day andfor a12. Hour day which equates to 13,30 pounds an hour . Or if you say it was all captive time you could argue it was half that and 6.65. Pounds an hour. You would also have to bring in leave pay into the equation. Even in the top ranks of the few who pay apparently to the layman a film star wage dont be mislead. There. Are barely two shipowners pay the same salary. The only place I have seen standardised salary for seafarersin the past 30 years was Australia. This was during the 11 years I worked here also very fair withnot the big differences seen in other nationals shipping. However I can’t speak for today and the few seafarers I still have contact with are not very pleased with the situation, so I assume conditions have gone backwards since 2002. I can’t see many active seafarers voting liberal at the next election. JWS...

That was when we were foot loose and fancy free. When we had family’s and tried to combine the two that was when things changed. Most gave up one or the other, if you combined the two then a proper salary had to be paid. I. Was one of the few who did combine the two and shipping was my life from 15 to 65. It was a hard life at times and you had to take jobs which as a free and foot loose person you would have knocked back. On having the choice of a better way of earning a living in the latter years I would have taken it also. The state of British Shipping today anyone looking for a life time career , my advice would be forget it. If however you are only looking to a short period in your life cycle of work then that is a different story. JWS

Further to #5... in the late 80s the British Shipping Federation was doing its best to get rid of people off their books either by voluntary redundancy or by failing medicals. What happened then can and will happen again as soon as you get surplus to requirements. This happens in most industry’s we know but in shipping it seems your course of actions are more restricted. There is no BSF today so your recourses are further restricted. Good will is alright to talk about but when push comes to shove just watch how the scene changes. This is why I am partial to a good union , and not those masquerading as such. I am old enough and seen enough of how the balll bounces and have seen the bad attitudes on both sides, but the working man needs someone looking after his interests if he is incapable of doing it himself. I very much doubt the company will reply as salaries for any crew now are of a very personal nature.

Very often negotiated between the company and the man.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

I see you live in Mumbai Why not ask the Indian equivalent of Nautilus the officers Union,or get in touch with your local International Transport Federation official. I am sure they will have a better Idea than most.
