Having looked at that badge several times I am convinced that it's definitely a Royal Navy PO cap badge . The current RFA badge has RFA embroidered around the anchor whether that's been the case for the last 70 years I don't know

This was my thinking a while back Rob,as said in one of my posts it is possible that he was in the RN Reserve Section at some time for a short spell.
Cheers
Added As the Camera angle on this shot is not all that clear its a wee bit difficult but possibly yes a PO Cap Badge.

Hi Danzo - RFA's were crewed by Merchant personnel. I was RN and served on Med minesweepers '61 - 63 - Brown Ranger was still around then and a familiar site - was possibly RAS'd (Refuelled at Sea) by her on more than one occasion. Sadly I think she was scrapped around 74/75
Best wishes
Pete Jackson
Hi - yes definitely RN - I read in one of the threads that there was a connection with HMS Ausonia. She was submarine depot ship whilst I was on Med 'sweeper' ('61-63). Anchored permanently in Sliema Creek - it was rumoured that she was resting on all the beer cans on the sea-bed !!
Best, Pete Jackson
#38.. there is only one MN capbadge that I know of, and that’s not it. JWS
#38... as said in previous posts, there is only one merchant navy Queen or Kings uniform for the British Merchant Navy. As regards the cap badge one member has it for his apps, and this is the only recognised MN cap badge. Even those wearing the much sought after Bombay bashed are out of uniform when wearing. Other brass buttons and braid if not mn is considered company livery. Shoes socks raincoats follows the RN design. Badges buttons and bows and braid is particular to MN personel only, regardless of questionable people wearing it out of character such as drivers of river craft. JWS
