    Default British & Commonwealth Shipping

I have came across an newspaper article regarding the above shipping company, which I would appreciate any help.
During Feb. 1956 B&C announced that they had placed an order with Swan Hunter for a 37,000 ton tanker (not sure if dwt.).
A further newspaper article stated that this one of five tanker orders that Swans had secured for various owners.
The B&C tanker, if possible name when laid down, name if the order if it was sold on or was the order cancelled?
    Any help appreciated.

B&C ordered three tankers, one from Swan Hunter in 1956, two from John Brown.
The two ordered from J.B. was converted from tankers to, two general cargo ships.
The S.W. order is a mystery.

In the book of UCL, 'Every Thursday at 4 o'clock' there is mention of an oil tanker company owned by them.

But not sure if wholly owned or just leased, must read the book again.

John, they owned a few through their subsidiary Scottish Tankers, but the one from S.W. is a mystery.

    YNo.1879 TALAMBA. (Initially ordered as Erinpura)For British India/Trident Tankers.34,709 grt built 1964
YNo.1891 STALAND . 30,846 grt for A/S Havtank,Oslo. Completed 1962.Both these tankers have very similar dimensions.
YNo.2003 OTTOWA Larger at 51,756 grt.For Trident Tankers .Completed 1964.

There does not appear to be any more built of the same size at that time, although Shell seemed to have it's own planned building programme going on at the same yard and built several similar sized tankers.
Just as a matter of interest I see that Clan Line had four built there during 60/61, Farquharson,Ferguson,Forbes and Fraser.

Gulliver, trident takers, that is the one mention in the UCL book I spoke of.
Thanks for reminding me of the name.
