    Looking through some of these old posts maybe the East of Suez bonus which I never got and still to find someone who did , was maybe a bonus given by one of the better shipowners for getting his ship through in one piece ? JS

    Hi John.
    I remember this big Welsh bosun and I pulling at a rope that was being pulled into a boat in Port Said in 1950.
    As the saying goes one had to have eyes in your anus going through there. Must be disappointing for the boatmen these days with containers, as much as the crews.
