Ivan, Believe it or not i read all your posts because none of us will ever know it all me included and i find some of your posts very interesting indeed, Until i see a picture from 1912 showing her sailing with a Blue Ensign i will never be certain myself. I can only take in what i have read on the internet and Library when we had one and they all came up with the same info that i have posted, Along with his sea career in his Biography, I do have a handbook dedicated solely to white star line i have read this little book over and over i am still on a mission to explain which flag she flew and why you and J.S May be correct, But it makes for good debate and therefore am still open minded on the subject. British merchant vessels normally fly the Red Ensign. However, as the captain and at least 12 crew were members of the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR), a special warrant was issued to fly the Blue Ensign.

Thank you Terry, although in that era the photographs were b/w it may still be possible to see if it was red or blue as depending upon the quality of the photo the blue would show up as black and the red as dark grey. Incidentally I'm sure you know this, but others may not, international code flags were made out of coarse bunting, because it never lost its shape or colour regardless of inclement weather or strong sun, and that's why every flag had a different shape within its edge as when looking at them from afar into the sun, they looked black and white but from their internal configuration and shade you could tell which signal flags they were.

Of course old bunting flags were beloved by cadets as they made cleaning brass so much easier because of their coarse fabric.

Thanks Fouro an interesting read, I knew about the Collision while he was in command of the Olympic. There has even been theories that the Titanic was actually the Olympic , a bit like who shot JFK lol.

Robert Ballard disproved the theory that the Titanic and Olymicwere swapped.
Apparently H&W stamped the yard number on the propellors. Ballard on a dive on the Olympic focused on the propellors and the yard number stamped on the prop was clearly that coresponding to the correct ship.

I don't know if it is coincidence but every time somebody comes up with a conspiracy theory they always seem to have written a book on the subject I've met people that actually believe the Dan Brown books to be true
