Help with info on WW2 service record
Hi,
My Grandad passed in 1991 and was in the Merchant Navy he fought in WW2 and would NEVER talk about it.
He told me that he once was in Africa and saw my great uncle there and that a scar on his arm was from being shot as he was a gunner he told me this in 1990 when I was 10 so I'm hazy on this information. I recently told my Dad this and he said it's more than he ever told me!
Dad really wants to learn more and I've been trying to help, I'm not working due to serious illness and can't afford the fee on those ancestry sites.
The only information we have are his details:
Name: Francis Patrick Conway (went by Frank & Patrick is on his passport but not birth cert?)
DOB: 14/10/1913
Place: Tralee co Kerry Ireland
Mothers Maiden name: Regan
Died: 24/12/1991
I found this from searching and he COULD be the F Conway mentioned...
Reference: BT 382/368
Description:
Conway F to Cook Alfred W J
Date: 1941 Jan 01 - 1946 Dec 31
Held by: The National Archives, Kew
Former reference in its original department: 354
Legal status: Public Record(s)
Can't see any details to confirm, am too ill to go to Kew & £9 is expensive in case it's not him.
I found my Great Uncle his brother in-law he mentioned in Africa
Myles O'Halloran
DOB:13/04/25
Ref:BT 395/1/73357
Discharge No: R254388
If you can't help with Grandad info on Uncle Myles wold be great
Any help would be REALLY appreciated
Many Thanks,
Claire

Re: Help with info on WW2 service record
Re.. Conway if you find they emigrated to Australia know a Patrick Conway in his 50"s I would imagine, he had an older brother who I never met but knew him by repute. Both went to sea. Conway again is a common name and the chances are one in a million. Anyhow they live in Golden Bay, Western Australia. JWS
