Re: Old Haunts
Ivan you should invest in a blood pressure machine if you already have not got one.Only about 30 pounds your money, don't know how many tickys that is. Is also a good way of getting out of doing unwelcome chores as can always say your blood pressure is up. Sailed with a second mate once who boasted to me he was getting paid off the ship in Montreal on B.P. He did as well run a few blocks ashore and exerted his fat self and put it up intentionally and was paid off. Good job he did as left people in a precaurious position by writing non de plume letters to their wives, he would of been going off in a box if had shown his face when it came to light. However you have a good holiday and keep away from that pole dancing called the limbo. Cheers JWS

A Tikki, a small silver coin placed under the side plate by Yarpies at the end of the voyage as a tip for our most wonderful service. Having eaten a five course meal at every sitting three times daily.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Old Haunts
Funny Man! LOL
But it is funny that I always (well 95%) of the time, found that my SA Passengers were the better of the lot as far as Tips were concerned! Was it because I was a SA ??
I used to get an Envelope at each Dis embarcation point when Passengers were leaving ,and always some good Dosh enclosed and many with very pleasant notes of my Service too!
Cheers

Re: Old Haunts
John,at some time during those Aparthied days, It was a mandatory, either ,two or three years ,jail.
Recall being in Durban, one time , and reading in the Daily paper.Of an incident ,over at the Bluff.A few Crew off (British Tanker Co.) Were observed , by couple of the local, Gendarmes . Escorting ,some native girls, aboard.
The Police ,had waited a while, before going aboard . And doing the Arresting thing. (Entrapped ?) The Lads , being duly sentenced.
Two of us ,had a Scary experience. in Capetown.Met some inviting Glances,at a Bus Stop, one night.Followed ,them on to the Bus.
We Got off same Stop. Out Green Point way.
We walked behind ,at a reasonable distance. Nice Street ,Big Houses
Got Scared when they turned into a driveway, then past the side of the House. Adjoining that, at the rear, was a comfortable .Servants abode.
What's that Something , that "has no Conscience" ? especially after a few Lion or Castle Lagers. We emerged early Morn. After Sunrise . Retracing our steps . Probably after some minutes .A Police car went racing past in the opposite direction . Most likely ,A Neighbour ,Had seen us .Who Knows!
I'm not religous. Though don't mind borrowing the Phrase. here. " But for the Grace of God,Go I)
We did see the girls in Town that evening, and all was O'K. But No Thanks ! No Return.
