CRS10 Question
Can anyone tell me if it was unusual for a CRS10 not to have a discharge number on it when it shows the sailors movements through to the end of the war and his repatriation to the UK?
Thanks

Re: CRS10 Question
I do not know this answer for sure only that no Numbers were shown if the Service was for a brief duration and I only know of this relating to Indian and Chinese Seaman??
I am sure out expert Hugh will tell you more!
From the NA
Indian, Chinese and foreign national seamen, unnumbered series (as service was only of brief duration a
discharge book number was not allocated), mainly from 1941 to 1972, although the records of Chinese seaman cover
the period 1945 to 1972. Anglicised spelling of patronyms and forenames is used

Hi Hazel,
Yes, I would say it was unusual for the Dis.A not to be recorded on his CRS 10. If he was issued one, and every British seaman would have been issued one, then I cannot see a reason why it was not recorded on this document unless it was down to a dozy clerk shore-side who omitted it by mistake when the records were written up.

Hugh

Dozy clerks are the bane of my life! The person who eventually gave us this "photocopy" of Dad's CRS10 thought she was ding us a favour by protecting us from knowing Dad had a habit of getting into trouble - something we knew only too well already.
