Re: British MN Lapel Pin looking to find source to buy from or get from
Fouro, believe I said I would let you know when the MN badge came and what type. It has just arrived and is a veterans badge , and comes with a paper from the Ministry of Defence. With the following--
With the compliments of the Minister of Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans.
The UK Merchant Seafarers Veterans Badge is presented to you in recognition of your contribution to HM Armed Forces Military Operations'
Ministry of Defence Whitehall, London.
Is a nice looking Badge with the Crown extending above the Badge itself and marked Veteran. Is there another type.? Comes from a London Jeweller in a box. Cheers JS

John was it the silver with the filigree cutout (the official one) or a metal solid base usually blue and silver colour (a replica)

Re: British MN Lapel Pin looking to find source to buy from or get from
Will do Ivan. Am going to a Xmas bash put on by the Probus Club and held at the RSL Club on the 19th. Will see if any of those warriors pick up on it. They wanted me to do a talk some time ago, but gave some one else to do and gave them the paperwork to read from the Probus Club that is, so hope they aren't expecting for me to do again, I will get too sloshed in any case, as wont be driving, my good lady has volunteered to do. Cheers JS ( RSL Returned Servicemans League).

That is the one I have John
an SAS man told me to wear it at all times, not for us but for the men who never came home, it reminds the people who do forget.
Cheers

Re # 53.
John, considering your service working with the MOD on the Seaforth Clansman, I thought they would have sent you both specimens of the HMAF Veteran Badges.

Re: British MN Lapel Pin looking to find source to buy from or get from
Re my post above:- My aim was to show you photos of both types of HMAF Veteran Badges, that was all.
At the very least they could have added ones name and number on the presentation letter.

Re: British MN Lapel Pin looking to find source to buy from or get from
The only other type of badge I have seen was just the red duster. I sent in no proof of the other 46 years of MN shipping just ref to the Clansman, which they obviously got confirmation from the MOD. Couldn't really in all reason wear two badges at the same time unless put on different jackets. Believe there was a bit of controversy at the time about this badge and who was entitled to wear. That's why at the time said I would let you know which one they sent. That is if there are still two badges. Anyhow cost 4 pounds 55pence to send. So as you are a taxpayer I thank you. Ref. your concern about the correspondence with the badge, it is a badge no more no less. Even if it had been a medal there is every likelihood it would have also been similar. Unless a medal of a high order would have come from the Palace with a Warrant signed by the Queen. The three other medals I have come from the Australian Merchant Navy awards Council and only come with a certificate as proof that you are entitled to them, a badge is a badge is a badge that can be worn at any time, did not expect any more to what was received and is ample. And thank the MNA for doing a worth while job., and sent them an email to this effect on receiving. Cheers JS
