Re: Please help
I would like to thank everyone for all your help and advice you have all given me. Yesterday I received my dads artic convoy medal. I started looking in to my dads past back in September and it has taken till now to receive it. I have found out lots of interesting things about him and even that he was on a ship that took prisoners of war away from the nazi death camps. And that he has been to New Zealand and also the Bay of Bengal, and the Persian Gulf. Thankyou Attachment 19835xAttachment 19836Attachment 19837Attachment 19838

Re: Please help
I was in BA in 53/54 and she was dead then, but still revered by the people as all the posters were up on all the billboards and sides of buildings. Going back in later years however the people must have lost the memories of her as she was their champion, the next generation soon forget. The same applies to our own history of a once not so long ago as a naval power to be reckoned with. My first time in BA the rate of exchange on the ship was 49.5 pesos to the pound, a pound note ashore could get 200 pesos. The Argentine over the years always seems to get problems with their finances, is it bad management that is corrupt officialdom or what, as they are supposedly a rich country.. JS

Re: Please help
Hi Claire.
Those are great pictures which I'm sure make you proud of your Dad. There are many who are helped on this site and there are a few who do not acknowledge that, a small few, so I would like to thank you for your posts in this regard, I can't do the research others do so I admire them for it.
Cheers Des

Re: Please help
Hi Clare.
You are very lucky that your Dad kept his journal of his trips; I threw mine away as surplus to requirements when I packed to emigrate to NZ along with all but one of my payslips. I still have many mementos of my time at sea my kids [Grown up] don't bother to much only saying yea yea Dad we know, when I talk about being at sea, but I hope they will look a bit more closely when I'm gone.
Cheers Des

Re: Please help
My dad kept alot of stuff from when he was away I can remember two photo albums full of ships but can't find them at mums at the mo but I will keep looking. I also found out when he lived in N Z he belonged to a group called the royal antediluvian order of buffaloes and I have been in touch with them and they sent me some information and the medals he had from that .
