    Default Gout

I had Gout about 3 years ago,8 weeks ago I had Gout again which lasted 3 weeks, another week passed
then I got Gout again which lasted 3 weeks,a week later i had a mini flare up of gout,
I went to the Doctor 3 weeks after the first time this year, first thing she asked Do you drink?
I replied At least 1 can a day.
She said Cut that down to 1 can a month.
I did not tell her of the rum in my coffee in the forenoon, nor the G and T in the afternoon.
I cut the spirits out compleatly but have had a odd beer.

Hi, I suffer from Gout like yourself most people get it in their big toes, I got it in my wrist, (got out of a lot of jobs indoors) my doctor prescribed " Allupurenol " it does not cure it as such just prevents it appearing again ( supposedly )
It seems it's a build up of Uric Acid Crystals in your joints.
I do know it bloody hurts big time.
    You have my sympathy.

Yep. I have taken prescription colchicine 500 micrograms for many, many years and thje only time I get gout is when I miss a day. When I was having my quintuple cardiac artery by-pass graft in 2005 they stopped my colchicine in the lead up. I was heavily sedated on a trolley going into the operating theatre and one of the nurses knocked my big toe. I screamed, there was a sharp intake of breath all round, I cried out "It's me gout!!!" and the next thing I knew I had had the operation, was away with the fairies on morphine and when I was lucid my pills included those little white colchicine tablets.
    Good luck EM.

I get cramps in the legs and is really painful. My old man used to get the same, he was a heavy beer drinker and only got relief when he stopped drinking. Gout is another form of arthritis I believe. JS

    Hi John Albert
I was on NAPROXIN, for Tendon it is, a damaged Tendon in my foot, It was good as a pain killer , BUT it is also a KYDNEY KILLER.
It contains decoflenec * which will give you Kidney failure.
I have been on it one a day for the last six months, I had a blood test ,at the hospital it said I had Kydney failure, so had another one and it said showed that I was using Naproxin which affects the kidneys, I was also using VOLTAROL, that also affects the kydneys it is absorbed into the blood through the skin.
So I saw the doctor on Friday and have now stopped using it.
I phoned my son, who is a Consultant in Liver, Kydney and pancreas and he told me that same. keep off medication that contains decoflenec* [ cant spell it.] I also confirmed it with the Chemist, So that was four opinions.
So have a blood test to see if it has affected you, very important.
I have to have another blood test in four weeks to see if there is any improvement. It will take up to four weeks to get they decoflenec*
    out of the blood.
I usual have all my blood tests every six months now.
Every thing else was normal, just the kidney failure by NAPROXIN. I have three packets so will have to take them back to the Chemist.
When I had gout, I would have chopped my foot off if I had had a fire axe handy, the pain is the most.
I was on Allopurinol for that. very effective. But again long term there could be some side effects.
Gout is caused by Uric Acid usually in Beef and in Red Wine as well as other stuff. It forms Crystals in the joints [ a bit like broken glass]
    and the most extreme pain.
I don't eat beef any more or drink red wine.
    Cheers
    Brian.
