Problems in the Med.
I was wondering about the problems that the refugees from Libya being taken across the Med. It was my understanding that when these people landed in any EU Country it was that countries responsibility to return them from where they came from. If that is correct why dont the ships return them instead of landing them in the EU country, mainly Italy. That way they will be deterred from trying to get to the Uk or any other EU country.

Re: Problems in the Med.
john they should be repatriated at country of origin no question but more should be done in Libya to dissuade people from paying gang masters and wasting money on them it would only take a few returning vessels to point of origin and the word would soon get out but enough is enough Christians have been known to have been thrown overboard on fishing boats because of their religion but seems to be kept quiet lately how many of the brotherhood are coming into Europe the easy way as asylum seekers ?? just my view jp

Re: Problems in the Med.
That's too easy for some to figure out. I have it on good authority that here in Australia the boats from Sri Lanka are being towed back to same country. The press have not got hold of this story as would be all over the news, and the less they know the better. This is all legal as Immigration officers are also on the towing vessels and are being processed there and then. They are economic refugees in other words chancers. They are not escaping from torture or death and should be returned back to their source. If they have the money to pay for a costly passage on illegal vessels they should also be able to afford to apply legally for entry. I am fully in agreeance with Australias attitude to this problem and if anything it should be even stronger in deterrence. If suddenly these facts appear in the press I for one will know they are getting their info. from perusing this site and others like it, to gather their sometimes unbelievable news stories.

Re: Problems in the Med.
Any ship is responsible for the safety of life and these people know that, they are not responsible however to take them to their targeted destination, they should indeed be returned back to the point of their embarkation. If necessary have armed guards on board who are prepared to use all necessary force. Entry into a country is not everyones legal right as some think, they will continue coming and their final destination will be the UK as they already know the streets are paved with gold via the benefits system. I do not feel sorry for these people unless they are genuine refugees which most aren't. JS

Re: Problems in the Med.
These refugees are coming from all over Africa. There has been Ghanaians, Somali's and other nationalities amongst the thousands of refugees. It is estimated that at least 250,000 will make the voyage this year alone, mostly M'lims. This makes me wonder if there is not some sinister plot to flood Christian Europe with m'lims.
If the West and particularly the USA had not supported or encouraged the "Arab Spring" where supposedly free thinking Arabs {are their such a thing} had risen up and demanded democracy in such places as Egypt, Tunisia and Libya where the USA in particular was intent on getting rid of Gadaffi, then this problem would not have occurred. To solve it the gang masters behind this trade have to be sought out and eliminated.

#7... Cappy would be a pleasant surprise coming back from Fleetwood and finding a couple or 3 families ensconsed in his house. Maybe someone could put up a sign in his front window Bed and Breakfast only 3 rupees or 5 Ghana pounds per night, would help him out on his next cruise with his bar Bill. Cheers John S PS See Gillies already sorted that one out JS
