Re: Letter to the Editor
Let me know if sounds familiar 'Letter of the day'
Merchant Navy Left Out
--------------------------------
In your published list 'Warriors Guide to Gratuities' why is there no mention of the Merchant Navy? I was left a widow nearly 21 years ago with two sons under four years old. My younger son joined the Merchant Navy at the age of 14 years, like other Merchant seamen he has seen quite a little of this war's troubles.
Surely after all these years of service, he and all other Merchant Seamen are entitled to some gratuity. But the probability is that as usual, the Cinderella Service will be passed by, despite the fact that there are always merchantmen ready to volunteer for anything, no matter how dangerous or how inadequately armed their ships may be.
Mrs F. Owen-Lowe, Cantref, South Wales
----------------------------------------------------
Sounds very familiar doesn't it, it was letter of the day in the Daily Express dated 13th February 1945, nothing changes. Even then when we were fresh in the minds and being praised by Churchill and Mongomery we were still the forgotten service, so we have very little hope now it would appear.

Re: Letter to the Editor
The cap is a fine touch Den, send in your great piece and keep on their hammer. Like Happy Daze John I remind our National Broadcaster every MN Day, if I don't they would never give those brave lads a mention. Well done.

Re: Letter to the Editor
Well one paper published my letter.I emailed the other one right away, and resent my letter with the request to get it into the next edition before everyone forgets about remembrance day.
I also included the one Ivan kindly sent, from a paper in 1945.
I shall keep pursuing it.
Will be interesting to see if I have a response from the Canadian Legion.
