    Default Southampton fifties sixties

    Hi

I'm David St John - a professional entertainer who was born and raised in Southampton so lucky enough to remember the great liners of the 50s/60s and how the visiting seamen helped boost the local nightlife!

I have a website which includes many memories of the local music scene as I started outas a ten year old rock n roll singer on the Royal Pier then later sang with many bands through the 60s on.

www.davidstjohn.co.uk Just go to Site Map to read music pages

I'm sure that manyold seadogs will enjoy reading my memories and I am also looking to find any old photos from that time eg any Docks images or relating to the dance halls etc. In addition, I am doing some research on any crew on the Atlantic runs and many of these brough back the early US hit records - these inspired young musicians and we all know how the Liverpool route enabled the early Beatles and pals to learn the new sounds.

I look forward to any memories - thanks!

    Default 50' and 60's

    Hello David,
Well firstly welcome here to our Great site which has been setup by one Brian and a very good job he has done of it too!
Done all us old Seadogs proud.

Have just been looking in on your site, and it is so full of nostalgia you have also done a nice little job there !

Some of the stories do bring back good memories (me having been on the Union Castle Liners) of Southampton days and although its been so many years ago now,i still recall those fine Nights at the Pier with all that lovely Rock and Roll Music!
I cannot exactly recall many of the Groups that played there, but i am almost sure that i would have been there at some stage when you were performimg live there!

I am sure there will be many who will also recall those memories, and in time will post of their memoirs here too!

There are some good sites around about old Southampton, the Pier and some of the old Pubs too,so just browse the Net with Google and i am sure a lot of Pics etc will come to the fore!

Hope that you will get many responses David, and thanks for the Memories
    Cheers

PS I se you are in Birmingham!
I used to live there at one stage in Halesowen! My Daughter still lives in Hayley Green!

    Default musicians

Hello David, have just been reading your post. Not sure if you can help me but I am trying to get information on a musician from the 1930s. His name was John Turner and he played on the Empress of Britain and the Queen Mary.
I have found him on serveral manifests but would love to get photos or more info on him - he was my grandfather.
Born in 1897 he sailed many times. Thanks for anything you can give me.

    Regards Cheryl
