Sailing letter... Assumed this was some form of agreement rather than ships Articles, as ship was going to the knackers yard. On first reading also assumed Instrumentation was referring to the Rules and regulations put out by the DOTI believe these statutes were referred to as Instruments. Have apparently misread the post. Could someone clarify Instrumentation and Sailing letter. Cheers John Sabourn
HI All.
All the tankers I was on in the 50's had six inch insurance wires and we bloody used them, up the gulf or any port that was open to the sea like the gulf ports were, we put them out in Dunkirk and that was an enclosed port.
In NZ all the coal boats using the Westport and Greymouth rivers had to put them out along with the usual ropes and back springs,as the rivers were very fast flowing. Down there you had to tie up facing up river with an insurance wire out fore and aft, when ready for sea we would take in the bow insurance wire and then all the ropes and wires, the skipper would put her at half ahead and hard a'port, as the river pushed her head around and it was swinging fast he would stop engines and all hands had to be ready down aft to pull in the aft insurance wire in when he gave the word everyone flat out running along the deck hauling in this bloody great wire kept you in trim. Port Kembla was another port where we had them out as the swell used to come right in to the wharf, at one time when we had to run from there we only had six people on board, they used to blow a siren in the port but you can imagine someone running out of the pub to get back on board 'yea right' nearly killed me getting those wires in. but would do it all over again given the chance.

If we ever got down to "El Avenida de veinticinco de Mayo" again, I have no doubt the casitas and establicimientos and other long forgotten joints will still be extant. Las putas will still be going strong, but personally I doubt if I could handle a full scale, old style, all night blast, with vino tinto!

Rob you must have a deranged mind like mine. Sometimes a couple of lines of some thing heard years ago appears on the sub conscience and walk around for days trying to remember. There were some really proficient people at sea with a lot of poetic licence. I hope someone somewhere has stowed them away somewhere for years to come. There is nothing there only shops, banks and offices.
I was in there in 2009 I walked the full length, a very long street .
No Texas Bar, No Marina Bar , No Lighthouse Bar, No May Sullivans, all gone. All the girls gone. not one little bar left. No bars in the city, only in Hotels,
The only bars left are in La Boca, and they are rough.even I would not go in them.
