Hmm, 10 years after. I was an Engineer Cadet as far as Glasgow. Main engine kept stopping, fuel pump (or injector) tolerances to tight for heavy oil.

    Hi All,
Sailed as an Engineer Cadet on the Armadale 1977 -1978, mainly to Lagos under charter (big green funnel)
Engineer cadet on maiden voyage of Australind (coast only) 1978
Then did 8 1/2 months on Armadale 1979 - 1980. Literally went around the world.
Had way too much leave, got bored and went to college. Trinders seemed to fall apart at the time.
Ships being sold all over the place. Armadale was the last one sold I believe.
I am in contact with Tony Gaffney who was an engineer cadet in the same year as me.
He seems to have an encyclopedic knowledge of all crew names.
I am also in contact with Bill Byers (another engineer cadet from my year) and Peter price a deck cadet.
    Regards

My father Ivan (Paddy) Cloherty (yes god forbid there were two of us) served as Bosun on the following

    'Galway' 02.07.1966 until 17.07.1969
    'Araluen' 08.08.1969 until 05.11.1971

came home on leave, had a heart attack and was not allowed to go back to sea, however having a PSV Licence he was allowed to drive long distance coaches full of passengers, work that one out!
