Murder on the NEW ZEALAND STAR

When I was in the Police Force 1963-1984 if a murder was committed abroad and Scotland Yard were requested to help, there was a Department based at Scotland Yard (The Met actually) a Detective Superintenent and Detective Sergeant were send out to it. I have no idea if this Department is still in existance. I have searched on the Metropolitan Police Site without success. If they did investiate the crime it will be recorded somewhere in the Met (Never is anything thrown away).
I would suggest for the cost of a Telephone call to The Met you could well find out something out, ie. date , victim, location, Officer in Charge.

There was almost a murder on the British Hawthorn on her maiden voyage.
The cook, well he said he was, was an alcoholic, even wanted to sell his knives to but grog.
But the food he served up in port when all had to be steamed was fine, kit came out of tins.
Sausages out of tins, square ones at that,
But we survived his food, somehow.
