Discharge Book numbering from WW 2 to 1972 for British seamen

Hi David, the numbers you gave look about right. I went to sea in 1960 and my number was R720703, so that falls in line with your notes.

My discharge book number when issued in late 1970 was R895679 and this number was kept when new discharge books were issued in 1972. I believe this was when the UK numbering system started

R396115 Frank Taylor stamped 5 September 1947 Dock Street whilst mine UK025573 14 October 1974.

My first trip was on the Monarch of Bermuda as an ordinary seaman (Peggy) in November 1941 when I was 15 years old. My discharge book number was R274361. I gave up seafaring in 1949 for a shore job and came to N.Z. in 1953. Yes, that's a long time ago but I'm still fairly active at 93.

Hi, My first ship was in 1958 and my number started with "R" but I believe in the 1970's sometime "UK" was used.

#57.. An old fella who visits. The same venues as me was 100 years of age last month. He always sports a RN lapel badge . Was going to ask him about his past next week, but as all gatherings are now illegal will have to wait, usually see him at Rockingham.if he went as a boy seaman he would have been at sea in 1934. Long before I was born and would be quite at liberty to say I was in Baghdad when you were in Dads bag. JS.
