Thank you Hugh - that is very helpful.
I am in London with work next week so will aim to visit Kew and order the document you suggest.
Many thanks
Victoria
I have been to Kew and have accessed the log book for Fort St paul for both 1945 & 1946 whereby there is a full account of the incident that led to my Grandfathers death early in the morning of Friday 1st February in Danzig. There are still some questions to be asked as it is not clear how my Grandfather ended up in the water, whereby the presumption was he died of asphyxiation by drowning.
I was wondering if the forum could help with some abbreviations mentioned in the report:
B.M.W.T.
M.W.T.R
B.H.O.W.T.
Kind regards
Victoria
Hello Victoria,
I suggest the various abbreviations actually mean the same thing:
B.M.W.T = British Ministry of War Transport.
M.W.T.R = Ministry of War Transport.
B.H.O.W.T = British ?? War Transport. Could the 'H' actually be 'M'
Regards
Hugh
Great, thanks Hugh,
yes you are right.
Reread the log book and there is a crest stamped on the front page 'issued by Ministry of Transport'. So obvious when you know what to look for...
Kind regards
Victoria
