    Default Treasures a keepsake:

    .

    TREASURES A KEEPSAKE

    M. N. WIDOW HEARS OF HUSBAND’S HONOUR

Keepsake of Mrs Eva Winifred Trencher, 5 Tower Street, West Hendon, Sunderland, is a small combined powder compact, mirror and wristlet –type watch, given by her husband, Second Engineer Officer Charles H Trencher, Merchant Navy, before he died.

Torpedoed in the South Atlantic in 1942 he had the set in his pocket throughout his ordeal in the water and subsequent 12 days in an open boat.

His death in September 1945, was attributed to illness contracted through exposure, and Mrs Trencher has just been informed that her husband’s name has been added to the Merchant Navy Roll of Honour.

Twenty –five years of age, Second Engineer Officer Trencher joined the Merchant Navy in 1941after serving an apprenticeship at Doxford and son’s shipyard.

Mrs Trencher, who served in the WAAF during the war, has an eighteen –month old daughter.

    Default 1942 / 12 days in open boat ?

    .

Again the advise by Hugh ( Quote: "I would advise that you obtain his Form CRS 10 [service record from Jan, 1941). This will list all his ships from that date until 1945"). Would seem the best to follow.

I will keep looking my way, sometimes comes up trumps:

EG: December 1942 / 700 miles in an open boat lasting nearly 12 days ?

Most likely not what we seek, but interesting also.
