Default Peter Cain died Dec 1911, ship sunk by fire

I am looking for any information about my Great Grand Father Peter Cain. He was born in 1879 and lived in Leith. He was married to Jane Wallace. Peter was a fireman on a ship out of Leith. A family letter states that Peter was lost, along with a brother and some cousins when his ship caught fire and was sunk in December 1911. Peter was a last minute addition to the crew, and the insurance company never paid the claim. Would anyone have some information about the accident, or, would you be able to direct me where to look? I cannot even find any information regarding the name of the ship.

Any information, even the smallest bit, would be ever so much appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Karen

    Default 'amana'

    Hello Karen and welcome,

The Furness liner 'AMANA' left Leith on December 1, 1911 for Philadelphia. Her Master was Captain Cone. The ship carried a crew of thirty.
I have a Peter Cain, a Fireman of 1 Citadel, Leith as one of the missing crew is this your gt grandfather? I can name the other members of the crew some time tomorrow when I get home from work.

    Regards
    Hugh

Thank you so much for this information. This is the first time in a century that we have learned this information. I shared the information with the family this past weekend, and all were amazed.
